Sundays are usually a mix of relaxation, anxiety and preparation. They are the last day of the weekend but also one day removed from the start of the work week. The “Sunday Scaries” is a real thing with anxiety setting in knowing the work week is less than 24 hours away. In this post, you’ll read about how to make the day both relaxing and even a little productive.

Unplug and have Screen-free Time

Social Squares

In Black households, Saturday mornings are usually reserved for house deep cleanings. I’m sure every Black adult knows the feeling of being woken up early on Saturday morning to get on their knees and scrub tubs and toilets. With a day’s work of deep cleaning behind you, why not enjoy a tea or coffee and unplug. Disconnect from the world with a good book, or curl up and listen to a new podcast. No screens involved activities allows your body to relax and your eyes can take a break from all that blue light.

Connect with Family or Friends

Catching up with family and friends during the busy work week can be heard. Between meetings, dinner, chores and attempting a somewhat “normal” life checking in on loved ones can be a challenge. To help keep you in touch, reserve time on Sunday. You don’t have to worry about your workday running too long. It’s also perfect when talking to people in different time zones. Connecting with at least one person in your life with a heart warming phone call or Facetime is good for the soul.

Plan or Journal

“If you fail to plan you plan to fail” is such an old saying but there is some truth to it. You can remove some of your anxiety if you have a better idea of what you need to accomplish or tackle for the week. Fear of the unknown can stop you from even starting things as you might feel the task is too big. In other words, don’t just tell yourself that you’ll eat healthy or workout next week, but write down how you plan to achieve them. For instance, what healthy meals will you eat, maybe not the exact ones but create some options so you aren’t starting from scratch. Apply this thing to any habit or task you want done, like registering to vote. Look at your schedule for the week and pick a day to get it done.

Pro tip: Everything can’t be a priority, know the difference between what has to be done and what can wait.

Have a “Self-Care” Moment

Do something for YOU! It can be as simple as a face mask or a glass of sparkling wine. Lit a candle and enjoy a long bubble bath, hell even take a nap lol just do something for you and you alone. True self-care shouldn’t require money or be something that will incites guilt. Some other things you can do are balancing your budget, throwing some extra money in your savings, going for a walk or organizing your closet and that overflowing junk drawer.
